Managing Potty Accidents

Only adult, female leaders are allowed to change a child, regardless of whether it is a
diaper or clothing.

A Child in Diapers

  • Take him/her to the changing station to change the diaper.
  • Any diaper changes should be done in a public, well-lit space with another contributor present for liability purposes.
  • Topical medications for diaper changing purposes are to be used only when instructed and provided by the parent or guardian.

An Older Child in Clothing

  • Verbally console the child, if upset or embarrassed.
  • Make sure there is another contributor in view/present when caring for the child.
  • Clean bottoms and undergarments are kept in the orange room cabinets, in various sizes.
  • Have the child take off their soiled bottoms and put them inside of a Ziploc bag labeled with the child’s name.
  • If the child requires assistance, help the child wipe him/herself clean with a baby wipe and put on the fresh pair of undergarments and bottoms.
  • Have the adult leader communicate with the parent/guardian that their child had an accident during class, but the soiled clothes were bagged for them to take home and their child was given clean clothing to wear for the remainder of class.

Preschool bathroom doors must remain open at all times.
